TSS VOLENDAM became a troopship in WW2. After the war she was not suitable fore the luxury Transat service. She was rebuild as emigrant ship.
TSS VEENDAM was seized by the Nazi's and used in Hamburg as U-boat depot ship.After the war she was refitted fore the luxury Transat service with 223 first, 363 tourist passengers.

Statendam was the first and only 3 funnel liner owned by HAL. It took 8 years to build this liner. Lay-ed down on the Harland and Wolff Shipyard she was finally finished at the Dutch Wilton Fijenoord Shipyards in 1929. During the Nazi Germany invasion of The Netherlands she was hit by Dutch bombs, she burned fore 4 days. The only two Items saved where here Dutch flag and ships bell.
